My life as an artist is like a journey which takes me through an amazing range of possibilities. I love so much about Art.....light, color monochrome, form, texture, contrasts, drama, story, atmosphere... I love the potential that Art has to make me happy and express my most meaningful emotions and experiences.
Along the way significant stages in my journey have included landscape, still life and portraiture and figurative and most recently sculpture. Over the years I have worked in soft pastel, charcoal, oil pastel, acrylic and oil paint and various drawing mediums.
In making my Art I find myself seeking distinct themes or ideas which require exploration and can be sustained and developed through a series of works. Starting points might be a line of poetry, a pattern on fabric, the light, a dream or a conversation which deeply resonates. Allowing the resultant works to flow and evolve naturally as a consequence of each other works so well for me.
An enduring interest in figurative work has recently lead me to explore the possibilities of sculpture. At this stage on the most basic level my sculpture involves the deconstructing of familiar objects in order to reconstruct them to convey an idea. My approach is highly intuitive and depends on a strong level of trust on my part in the success of the process and the final outcome. I am excited by the freedom that I am feeling in this area of art-making and the amazing potential of sculpture to express concepts and issues which are meaningful to me.
